An Accelerated 2-day workshop
on Bitcoin and the Blockchain

Get a comprehensive introduction to Bitcoin concepts and the inner workings of the Bitcoin protocol. This is done through a combination of theory and practical exercises using the latest Python libraries to interact with the Bitcoin network and the Blockchain.

Why now is the time to learn

Bitcoin and the blockchain have become some of the most talked about technologies of the modern day. Launched 7 years ago as a cryptocurrency experiment, these two technologies are reshaping the world we live in and entrepreneurs working on Bitcoin and blockchain have attracted hundreds of millions of dollars in venture capital and are set to change society in ways that may rival the Internet.

The technology utilizes concepts from the fields of cryptography, monetary theory, game theory, distributed computing, and hardware engineering. Hundreds of startups have been created to bring the technology mainstream and large banks such as UBS, Deutsche Bank, Santander and Bank of New York Mellon are looking at the technology to streamline operations.

The Bitcoin Bootcamp is a thorough technical introduction to the cryptographic technology. Students are taught the essential primitives that make the system work such as public key cryptography and digital signatures, cryptographic hashing, Merkle trees, Bloom filters, and much more. Once students have a grasp of the underlying primitives, they learn how these have been brought together to create the Bitcoin network we have today. At the end, students are brought up to speed on the latest developments within the ecosystem and are strongly encouraged to further their studying.

What you'll learn

After completing this 2-day intensive you will have a solid base upon which to build deeper knowledge in the field.

The Bitcoin Protocol

Learn all the primitives powering the cryptographic technology such as digital signatures, cryptographic hashing, Merkle trees, Bloom filters and Bitcoin script, and a Forth-like programming language which makes multi-signatures, payment channels, assurance contracts, and secure timestamping all possible.

The Bitcoin Ecosystem

Over the last 7 years the value of Bitcoin has skyrocketed from just $1 in early 2011 to over $700 today making it one of the best performing currencies we’ve ever seen. In parallel the infrastructure behind Bitcoin has exploded from a few hobbyists mining on their laptops to professional data centers fully dedicated to securing the network built in remote parts of China and Georgia.

Recent Developments

Learn about the latest developments in the cryptocurrency space like Ethereum and ZCash. We’ll also dive into Bitcoin specific developments such as segregated witness, sidechains, and the contentious block size debate - a consensus challenge that lies outside the underlying protocol.
